About Me

Hey, y’all! I’m Megan.  Welcome to The Apero Hour – the best time of day, in my opinion!  Pour yourself a drink and let’s get acquainted.

Originally from California, I moved east for college – and somehow, spent almost 15 years in Boston.  In that time, I traveled a ton, learned how to cook more than boxed mac and cheese, hosted too many parties to count, and developed a beyond-casual interest in wine.  That love of wine eventually brought me back to California, where I now work at a winery in Napa Valley and study enology and viticulture.

When I was first getting into wine, I would host monthly wine nights at my apartment.  I’d pick a theme (Sauvignon Blanc, Spain, Napa vs. Bordeaux), do as much research as I could, and then invite a bunch of girlfriends over to try wines that illustrated each theme.  I loved the opportunity to try a variety of new wines, figure out the kind of wines I liked, and hang out with good friends – all in a relaxed atmosphere (and with a relaxed waistband – who’s with me?!).  To this day, that is still my favorite type of party: casual and warm, yet informative and varied.  Wine should be accessible and most of all, FUN!

At the same time, my job allowed me to travel extensively.  And you can bet that whenever possible, I sought to learn more about local wine culture and try the locals’ wine.  Just as wine can enhance gatherings at home, I found that it can bring people together abroad as well.  Usually constrained by budget and time and interested in off-the-beaten path options, I became adept at finding unique wineries, wine bars, and experts at a reasonable price.

Fast forward years later.  I’ve learned so much more, but my original passion for these types of events and travels hasn’t abated.  I’d be delighted to help you plan your ideal apéro hour at home or develop an itinerary for a wine-focused trip.
